UASBC Speakers Series: The Loss of the SS Atlantic

The dramatic loss of the White Star Line’s SS Atlantic was the worst transatlantic passenger ship disaster of the 19th century, with some 550 deaths. Thirty-nine years before the Titanic (another White Star Line ship), the Atlantic loss is characterized by shocking incompetence on the part of the deck officers, bad luck, and stirring heroism on the part of a dozen fishermen who left their beds and took to their boats to save nearly 400 survivors.

The UASBC’s monthly Speakers Series presentations on Zoom are open to all!
