HMCS Saguenay was a St. Laurent-class destroyer that served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later the Canadian Forces from 1956-1990. Saguenay is 366 feet long and rests in 90′ of water, and currently leans on its port side. Scuttled in 1994 as an artificial reef off Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, she took 20 minutes to disappear beneath the waves, and landed upright in the sand. In May of 1995, she had taken on a 70-degree list to starboard. Each year she settles further onto her side. Because of a navigation hazard,  in April 1995, the park nearby had to purchase and maintain a…

Co-captaining his first multi-day sailing trips with his 13 year old twin sister started a lifelong love of being on the sea exploring coastal B.C. as well as foreign waters. A potential safety risk has been found by Suunto on two of its products. All consumers who have a Suunto Wireless Tank Pressure Transmitter or Tank POD are asked to bring the products to an authorized Suunto dive dealer or a Suunto Authorized Service Centre for inspection and upgrade. It is a free service for its customers. The exterior case of a Suunto Wireless Tank Pressure Transmitter failed during regular dry land pressure testing. Although it is extremely rare, it is a potential risk of injury if it bursts. The process is free for consumers. All Transmitters and Tank PODs must not be used…

On June 30, 2019, Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Huish Outdoors recalled Oceanic and Hollis first stage regulators. The metal regulator attaches to the scuba tank valve and controls the pressure of the air a diver breathes. The problem is that the diving regulators can restrict airflow at low tank pressures (below 500 psi), and can pose a drowning hazard to divers. As of June 15, 2018, Huish Outdoors has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to divers in Canada or the United States. In Canada, 326 units of the affected products…

This film dives into the often violent underworld of the pirate fishing trade. Rob Stewart’s passion of  protecting sharks earned him some powerful enemies. Shark fining is still alive and shark fin soup is considered a symbol of status in the Chinese culture. Sharks are now also being used to make products for human consumption. These products…
